How do you ensure that the TowerWing streamliner is always facing into the wind?

The steamlined profile (wing profile) of the TowerWing^TM rotates freely around the tower on which it is installed and the shape will automatically adjust itself to the position of lowest resistance. In practice we see that the TowerWing^TMstreamliner is always aligned with the wind when the wind speed is above 3 - 5 km/h.

What happens if something fails, and the streamliner is stuck – facing strong winds?

The rotating system design is such that the TowerWing^TMstreamliner will still rotate in a strong wind even of some bearings have failed, which has an extremely low probability of occurring.

It is unlikely the the TowerWing^TMstreamliner can become stuck due to an event like a fallen antenna, but if this happen, we have a monitoring system in place . All systems include a TowerWing^TM Monitor, measuring the direction of the wind and the wing, with the ability to report any deviation between the two. This will alert the tower owner/operator in the unlikely event that a physical interference, like a fallen antenna, is hampering the free rotation of the TowerWing^TM in the wind. In the graph below the wing was briefly prevented from moving for 2 minutes and the direction difference was detected immediately.

What is the maximum wind the TowerWing Streamliner can handle? What about storm weather?

The TowerWing^TM Streamliner is made for wind. The stronger the wind, the better it performs. We tested the TowerWing Streamliner at the CSIR wind tunnel at 360 km/hour or 100 m/second.

What is the impact of coastal rust and salt build-up on the Streamliner?

Rust:
The structure and skin of the TowerWing^TM streamliner is manufcatured from composite materials that are not affected by rust. The rotation system uses stainless steel components and will not rust.

Dust:
The bearing system have been chosen specifically for dusty environments

Snow:
Due to the unique design and material selection you will not have ice build up on the skin of the wing. The specially designed domed top wing fairing will also prevent ice build up on top of the Streamliner.

What is the impact of the Streamliner on RF performance?

The TowerWing^TMstreamliner is manufactured from composite materials that is neutral to the radio signals transmitted from the tower. The TowerWing^TMstreamliner has no impact on RF signals.

Can a Streamliner be installed on all towers?

Our design caters for monopole as well as lattice towers. Almost any tower structure can be accommodated. Guyed towers is the only exception.

Are there new towers available that includes a TowerWing streamliner?

We are in discussion with a number of cell tower manufactures and they will in future offer their towers with a TowerWing^TM as a standard feature.

How is the Streamliner attached to the tower?

We supply the concept design for the runner surface mounting. This is a very secure way of mounting the bearing runner surfaces to any tower structure.

What about the Aircraft Warning Light and tower markings?

We have specifically designed the TowerWing^TM so that you can now comply with all CAA safety standards, both aircraft warning lights and specified colour markings.

What product guarantees comes with the Streamliner? What is the life expectancy?

The composite fibre glass structure will survive for more than 20 years! The TowerWing^TM skin has a life expectancy of 7 to 10 years.
